FROM ARTICLE TO SCREEN:
A Conversation with WGA East’s
If you’re a journalist, you’re trained to find stories, research background and interview sources. You deal with quirky colleagues, fussy bosses and pressing deadlines. You pitch, fact-check and spin a beautiful tale.
In other words: you’re ready for Hollywood.
Join the Writers Guild of America, East as we talk to members who started out as journalists and now also write for the screen. How and why did they make the leap? How does their journalism training help them craft fiction? Is a TV writers’ room like a newsroom? How do you turn an article or book you’ve reported into a TV show or movie—and exactly how rich will that make you?
The panel will feature Jonathan Funke (Fortune / VIVA LA MADNESS), Keli Goff (Daily Beast / BLACK LIGHTNING), Thomas Kelly (Esquire / THE PURGE), Jon Ronson (GQ Magazine / OKJA) and moderator Lisa Takeuchi Cullen (TIME / ‘OHANA).
