Lecturer in Film and New Media, Filmmaking Practice

The Position

The Arts and Humanities Film and New Media (FNM) program is currently inviting applications for a full-time multi-year contract Lecturer in Film and New Media to begin Fall 2019. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive technical knowledge of all stages of film production, including film set protocol and safety procedures, and advanced knowledge and expertise with the latest filmmaking technologies. The successful applicant will teach courses in Film and New Media, including filmmaking technical modules, will be deeply interested in interdisciplinary work and committed to working collaboratively on creating curriculum and mentoring student projects, from technical, theoretical and aesthetic perspectives

Candidates should have a strong background in film production, including pre-production (breakdown, budgeting and scheduling), production (production sound, camera, lighting, on-set experience), and post-production (editing software, coloring correcting, sound design). In addition to teaching, responsibilities will include serving as an academic advisor for FNM majors, student projects and interest groups, collaborating with faculty, instructors, and staff in ongoing program and curriculum development, and committee work in service of the program and University.

The successful candidate will have the ability to teach and mentor students working in expanded or interdisciplinary approaches to Film and New Media. Candidates for this position should hold an MFA or equivalent (candidates with a bachelor’s degree and significant professional experience may be considered), a strong record of professional achievement, and university-level teaching experience. They must have strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and actively interact with students in a multicultural and international education setting. Connection or experience with the region is also a strength. The ideal candidate should also have experience and expertise managing film studio facilities and mentoring and supervising student studio assistants.
